Workshop - “Industry Academia Liaison” 

Workshop Objectives:

This program is designed to provide strategy and operational guidance to senior management and faculty of business schools and departments on how linkages with business and community could be established as well ensure that the institution could effectively fulfill its responsibilities.

The focus of this program is not only on providing ideas on why and how business linkages could be set up and provide insights on ways in which the related hindrances and challenges could be effectively overcome. It will cover many examples of how various business schools have established such mutually beneficial linkages, and leverage insights gained from nearly four decades of experience of the trainer in this regard. The program is based on sessions using Interactive discussions, case studies and panel discussions involving both academics and industry executives.

Learning Outcomes:

The key learning outcomes for this program include development and understanding of:

  1. Strategic role of business and community linkages for a business school.
  2. Role and responsibilities of senior business school management in fostering linkages.
  3. Role of faculty in developing and sustaining these linkages.
  4. How industry liaisons could be leveraged in making the curriculum more rigorous and relevant
  5. Perspective of business executives on utility of linkages with business schools.
  6. Formal mechanisms and organizational structures for fostering effective linkages.
  7. Ways of ensuring that dedicated organizational units like ORIC could play an effective role.
  8. Specific principles and rules to be followed to ensure provision of value to all stakeholders through these linkages.
  9. Metrics and measures to assess the effectiveness of these linkages.

Dean, Director, HoD, Director ORIC, Senior Faculty Members.

Notes:

  1. Workshop/Seminar Registration Fee:  30,000/-PKR.
  2. In case of replacements, transfer and refund, participant should officially notify via email/letter to NBEAC 10 working days prior to the workshop. After that NBEAC will not entertain any claims and changes.
  3. NBEAC may cancel or postpone a workshop/program due to insufficient registration or unforeseen** circumstances. In this case, NBEAC will refund registration fee but will not be responsible for any other related expenses including cancellation charges by airline and travel agencies.
  4. In case of postponement, the fee may be transferred to the rescheduled offering of that workshop or any other workshop as an alternate to refund. The NBEAC reserves the right to make changes in its program policies and fees at any time.

** If unforeseen circumstances occurs during the workshop and one day before the scheduled workshop, NBEAC will not refund the registration fee.

The Training and Development Wing of NBEAC conducted a two-day training on Industry-Academia Liaison, held on March 5th & 6th, 2024. This program aimed to furnish strategic and operational guidance to senior management and faculty of business schools and departments, emphasizing the establishment of linkages with businesses and communities to fulfill the institution's mission. Dr. Syed Zahoor Hassan, Professor Emeritus & Former Vice Chancellor of LUMS, Lahore, served as the facilitator for the program.

Over 30 participants, including Deans, Directors, ORIC representatives, and HODs from universities across Pakistan, attended the program. Additionally, representatives from the banking sector and hospitality industry were invited to share their challenges in developing linkages with business schools.

The trainer provided detailed guidance on establishing Industry-Academia linkages through various sessions, drawing from both theoretical frameworks and personal experiences, particularly highlighting liaison establishment at LUMS. The concluding session addressed factors contributing to gaps in establishing liaisons and proposed solutions to overcome these challenges.

This was the first instance of such a program being held in Kotli, hosted by The University of Kotli, AJK, and exclusively sponsored by The University of Lahore, SZABIST Islamabad, Institute of Business Management, Forman Christian College, University of Central Punjab, DOW University of Health Sciences, Lahore Garrison University, NUML Islamabad, University of Loralai, and Sindh Madressatul Islam University Karachi
