Who has established the NATIONAL BUSINESS EDUCATION ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (NBEAC) and what’s the purpose of NBEAC?

National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC), was established by Higher Education Commission (HEC) vide notification No. 1-2/BAC/QAA/2007, dated March, 2007.

The purpose of NBEAC is to assure quality in Business Administration/Public Administration/Management Sciences/Commerce degree programs according to the proposed accreditation in educational institutions.  NBEAC will function at national level as accrediting authority to facilitate and enhance the quality of business education in the country.

Who is controlling authority of the Council?

The controlling Authority of the Council is Higher Education Commission, through its Chairman, who supervises the affairs of the Council.

What is Accreditation and NBEAC Accreditation Process?

Educational accreditation is a type of quality assurance process under which services, operations and resources of an educational institution or program are evaluated by an external body to determine if prescribed standards are met. 

 NBEAC accreditation is for specific degree programs offered in Business Institutes/Universities. It is important to note that accreditation and certification are two different concepts. In general, institutions and programs are accredited, and individuals are certified.

The NBEAC accreditation process is composed of the following stages.

  • Formal Application
  • Eligibility Screening (by Secretariat)
  • Guided Development
  • Self-Assessment Process

Which disciplines are under the scope of NBEAC?

Program Accreditation (Business Administration, Public Administration, Management Sciences, Commerce).

What is the eligibility criteria for NBEAC accreditation? 

Programs will be considered for accreditation if they are offered by an institution of higher learning in one of the following categories:

  • Institutions chartered by Federal or Provincial governments.
  • Institution affiliated by the chartered universities or degree awarding Institutions
  • Institutions offering degree programs under affiliation/ collaboration with foreign universities approved by HEC.
  • Institutions that operate a branch-campus under the direct supervision and control of the main campus, and conduct program that is substantially equivalent to the one located on the main campus.
  • Whereas a multi-campus will be considered as a separate institution in the evaluation/Accreditation process.

What are the primary and core functions of the council?

Primary Functions:

NBEAC provides a platform of sharing best practices. The Council is organizing a comprehensive program of all the discipline under its scope. There is a comprehensive procedure and eligibility criteria of accreditation, For that purpose the committees evaluates the relevant academic programs for accreditation and take decisions on the suitable criteria, policies, and procedures as approved by NBEAC. What are the outcomes of Accreditation?

The recommendations of the PRP will be presented in Annual Council Meeting for final decision. Based on these recommendations the council will award one of the four possible categories.

Full Accreditation -04 years

 Accreditation Category W: Degree programs meeting the major criteria as set by the council for accreditation.

Provisional Accreditation

X2- (Provisional Accreditation awarded for 03 years)

X1- (Provisional Accreditation awarded for 02 years)

Degree programs with minor shortfalls expected to meet the major criteria as set by the council for accreditation within two years.

Under Consideration

Accreditation Category Y: Degree programs not meeting the major criteria as set by the council for accreditation.

 Rejection

Accreditation Category Z: Degree programs seriously deficient in meeting the major criteria as set by the council for accreditation.
