David Rowland received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in psychology in 1977, and has held fellowships at SUNNY-Stony Brook, Stanford University, Erasmus Medical center in the Netherland, and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He currently holds appointments as Professor of Psychology, Associate Provost and Dean of Graduate School and Continuing Education at Valparaiso University. In his various roles, He has spearheaded efforts toward internationalizing programs and student populations at Valparaiso University, forging partnerships with international government agencies and institutions of higher learning, and establishing the Graduate School as a prominent leader in higher education in the Midwestern USA, with focus on innovative programs that address emerging global needs. He play a major role in the Confucius Institute at Valparaiso University, as well as serving on several other International board of governors. His research focuses on an understanding of psychophysiological relationships, particularly insofar as it applied to sexual response and disorder in men and women. Rowland has published over 135 research articles and book chapters. He has served as editor of the Annual Review of Sex Research 2005-2009, has published (January 2008) Handbook of Sexual and Gender identity Disorders and more recently (May 2012) Sexual Dysfunction in Men, and serves on the Editorial Boards of three major journals.
